The town is part of the Nodaway Valley Community School District, along with nearby Fontanelle and Bridgewater, and is within easy driving distance of Southwestern Community College in Creston. Adair County Health System provides in- and out-patient medical services and ample elderly housing is available; as are abundant health, wellness and recreational opportunities including the Adair County Health and Fitness Center, youth sports complex, public swimming pool, walking trails, 18-hole disc golf course, and a nine-hole golf course.
